My Favorite Rose - March 2010

My Favorite Rose—Moonstone, Hybrid Tea by Robert Schelhorn, March 2010

My favorite rose is, was, and will always be the one I just cut, the one I stop to smell every time I walk past it. The one that brightens the day of the teller at the bank. The one I toss into the open passenger window of the lady next to me at the red light. The one I put on the customers’ tables at Albert’s Provence, the restaurant where I work. The one I give to my neighbors on either side of me after they have both just cut their grass and I have not because I have spent all of my time in my rose garden.

My favorite rose is the one that makes the show table. The one that looks as good next Wednesday as it did this Wednesday. My favorite rose is the Moonstone that made the Tallahassee Democrat in May 2004. Asking me which is my favorite rose is like asking me which is my favorite child. They are all my favorites.

(Editor’s note: Moonstone was introduced in 1998 by Weeks and is now rated 8.2 in the ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses. It is also the favorite of many other exhibitors.)
