Six Rose Garden Open House

The Tallahassee Area Rose Society is proud to announce a Garden Open House, to be held Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2011 from 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm. In this Open House, selected member gardens are open to the public in celebration of the glorious floral season in this area. These gardens cover the range of small, medium and large, and all are works in progress. There is no charge.

It is suggested that visitors wear comfortable shoes and hats. Please do not bring pets or cut blooms from the gardens. Children may come with their parents. Bring your cameras as there will be many blooms you will want to take a photo of. Please do not enter the rose beds.

The six gardens are located at: 1) Bill Dority, 3201 Brookforest Drive. Take Meridian Road north. Go to Lake Shore Drive. Turn onto Lake Shore Drive and go 0.7 miles to Brookforest Drive. Turn to the left. Go 0.1 miles and the garden will be on your left.

2) Sue Hansen, 2210 Cline Street. Take Thomasville Road north. Turn right onto Armistead Road and go 0.3 miles. Turn right on Cline Street and arrive at 2210 on the right.

3) Karen Jackson, 948 Alachua Avenue. Take south Magnolia Drive and go north. Pass Tennessee Street and turn left onto Alachua Avenue. Go 0.2 miles and 948 will be on your right.

4) Anna and Bill Price, 2777 Millstone Plantation Road. Take Thomasville Road, US 319 North, and go past Wal Mart. Go to crossover beyond Millstone Plantation Road and turn back to reach it. Go 0.6 miles on Millstone Plantation Road. Turn left to stay on Millstone Plantation Road and go 0.4 miles.

5) Seymour and Joan Rosen, 4591 Berklie Drive. Take Mahan Drive, US 90 East. From the intersection of Mahan and Capital Circle go 2.3 miles. Turn left on Edenfield Road. There is construction on Mahan. Go 0.6 miles on Edenfield Road and turn left onto Berklie Drive. 4591 is the third house on the left.

6) Stephanie Wilfong, 1913 Hollywood Drive. From Monroe Street, US 27, go to Glenview Drive. Turn right onto Glenview Drive and turn left onto Hollywood Drive. 1913 is on the right. It is behind the former Albertson’s Store.

The Tallahassee Area Rose Society meets on the third Thursday of the month in the months of January – May and August – November. The meetings are at 7:00 pm and generally last one hour, with refreshments afterwards. All meetings are held in the Jubilee Cottage at Goodwood Museum and Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida.

Year-round, the society offers the services of Consulting Rosarians to answer questions about any aspect of growing roses. Consulting Rosarians are also willing to visit gardens, if need be, to help the homeowner identify and solve problems in growing roses. I recently saw a photo of a simple Dog Rose in a pale gray/lavender color. Sadly I was out of town this year on the Open house day. I wondered if any of your club members might have plants like this to purchase ? Any ideas appreciated. Sincerely, Terry,
