Garden Open House Announced!

The Tallahassee Area Rose Society is proud to announce a Garden Open House, to be held Sunday afternoon, May 6, 2012 from 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm. In this Open House, selected member gardens in Tallahassee, Monticello, and Greenville are open to the public in celebration of the glorious floral season in this area. These gardens cover the range of small, medium and large, and all are works in progress. There is no charge. It is suggested that visitors wear comfortable shoes and hats. Please do not bring pets or cut blooms from the gardens. Children may come with their parents. Bring your cameras as there will be many blooms you will want to take a photo of. Please do not enter the rose beds. Call Joan Rosen (1-850-272-4222) or Pat Stanford (1-850-519-3745) with any questions. The six gardens are:

1) Bill Dority, 3201 Brookforest Drive, Tallahassee. From Tallahassee, take Thomasville Road to Timberlane Rd and go 1.7miles to Meridian Rd. Turn left onto N. Meridian Rd. and go 0.8 miles to Lake Shore Dr. Turn right onto Lakeshore Dr. and go 0.7 miles to Brookforest Dr. Turn left onto Brookforest Dr. 3201 is 0.1 miles and is on the left.

2) Hank Rosen, 6236 Hines Hill Circle, Tallahassee. From Tallahassee take Thomasville Road (US 319) to Maclay Rd. Maclay Rd. is 0.2 miles past Village Square Blvd. Turn left onto Maclay Road and go 2.2 miles to N. Meridian Rd. (CR 156). Turn right onto N. Meridian Rd. and go 2.9 miles to Spanish Moss Dr. Turn right onto Spanish Moss Dr. and go 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Meadow Ridge Dr. and go 0.2 miles. Take the second right onto Hines Hill Circle. 6236 Hines Hill Circle is on the left.

3) Stephanie Wilfong, 1913 Hollywood Drive, Tallahassee. From Monroe Street (US 27) go to Glenview Dr. Turn right onto Glenview Dr. and turn left onto Hollywood Dr. 1913 is on the right. It is behind the former Albertson's Store.

4) Betsy Barfield, 387 De Sercey Lane, Monticello. From Tallahassee (intersection of Monroe Street and Tennessee Street) take East Tennessee St. (US 90) east for about 21.0 miles to De Sercey Lane. De Sercey Lane is 0.1 miles past Tally Hills Drive. If you reach Rhea Rd. you have gone about 0.6 miles too far. Turn right on De Sercey Lane. Go 0.4 miles. Address of 387 will be on the left.

5) Isabelle De Sercey, 153 De Sercey Lane, Monticello. From Tallahassee (intersection of Monroe Street and Tennessee Street) take East Tennessee St. (US 90) east for about 21.0 miles to De Sercey Lane. De Sercey Lane is 0.1 miles past Tally Hills Drive. If you reach Rhea Rd. you have gone about 0.6 miles too far. Turn right on De Sercey Lane. Go 0.07 mile. Address of 153 will be on the left.

6) Marilyn Watson, 10 W. Buckhorn Trail, Greenville. From Tallahassee (intersection of Monroe Street and Tennessee Street) take East Tennessee St. (US 90) east to Monticello. At the roundabout take US 19/North Jefferson Street. Turn right onto E. Pearl St. (US Post Office is on the left). E. Pearl St. becomes Ashville Highway. Ashville Highway becomes CR 146. In about 10.0 miles turn right onto Deerwood Blvd. (Portions are unpaved). In 2.4 miles stay straight and go to Buckhorn (Portions are unpaved). 10 W. Buckhorn Trail is on the right.

The Tallahassee Area Rose Society meets on the third Thursday of the month in the months of January - May and August - November. The meetings are at 7:00pm and generally last one hour, with refreshments afterwards. All meetings are held in the Jubilee Cottage at Goodwood Museum and Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida. Year-round, the society offers the services of Consulting Rosarians to answer questions about any aspect of growing roses. Consulting Rosarians are also willing to visit gardens, if need be, to help the homeowner identify and solve problems in growing roses.
