We hope that you are making plans to attend the 58th Annual DSD Convention and Rose Show in Tallahassee, Florida, October 27 –29 as we celebrate “Treasures of Today from Yesterday”. There are many events planned and we hope that you will enjoy the entire weekend.
The registration desk will open at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon. We will be doing table arrangements for both Friday and Saturday evening during the afternoon beginning at 3:00 pm. If you wish you may volunteer to help with this activity.
On Friday evening there will be an opportunity to renew old acquaintances and make new rose friends at the Welcome Dinner.
On Saturday morning the show preparation area will open at 5:30 am and entries will be received from 7:00 am until 10:00 am. The show will be held at the Conner Building (same location as the TARS show) and is just seven minutes from the hotel. We’ll help you with specific directions. Bring roses! The judge’s breakfast will be at the Doubletree Hotel prior to judging. The show will be open on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm and Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
If you are not actively participating in the show there are a number of things to do in the downtown area. There will be a handout at registration that will help you with interesting activities.
We are very pleased that we have been able to get excellent rosarians to come and speak. Jon Corkern from ARS and Art Wade from Rose Petal Nursery will come and share their expertise with us. Their programs begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday. DSD announcements will be made by Director Ralph Stream. Please contact him, 352,591-4474 or email@example.com with agenda items. Jean Stream will be conducting the raffle. Don’t miss it!
At the adjournment of the raffle there will be a group meeting of the local society newsletter editors to share ideas on writing, publishing and distributing publications. There will also be a brief meeting on tips for adding photography divisions to their local show. Anyone interested is welcome to attend either event.
The awards banquet on Saturday evening will be the highlight of the weekend. There will be many prestigious awards to be presented.
Last but not least we hope that you will join us for the tour of gardens on Sunday morning. Bus will load at the hotel at 8:00 am. We will go first to the Peace Garden, a joint project of the TARS and the City of Tallahassee. Then we will be going on to Goodwood for breakfast. If you would like to follow the buses to Goodwood in your vehicle and leave it parked there while you join us for the tour, then you may do so.
The gardens of Ann Reynolds Griffin in Bainbridge, Barry Smith in Attapulgus and the Healing Garden at the Cancer Center in Tallahassee are included on the tour. Ann has restored the garden of Oline Reynolds, Barry Smith is a winning exhibitor and the Healing Garden is Old Garden Roses donated by Bill Dority. Lunch will be served by Bob Schelhorn at Goodwood Museum and Gardens back in Tallahassee. Hank Rosen and Seymour Rosen will be your hosts.
There will also be vendors at the hotel on Friday and Saturday for all your needs and wants for your rose hobby.
From your warm chocolate chip cookie at check in to our final wish for a safe trip home – there will be southern hospitality at its best!
